New animals at the zoo!

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) Visitors to the Riverside Discovery Center can enjoy a new animal at the petting zoo. The Heritage Barn is home to donkeys, pot-bellied pigs, and as of today - sheep!

It only costs a quarter to feed the docile farm animals. “We have signage around that shows people how to properly feed them,” said Nancee Hutchinson, Head Zoo Keeper. “You just put the food in your flat palm and they'll eat the food right of your hand if you hold your hand flat.”

There are four sheep: Junior, Jumble, Shakira, and her 2 month old lamb who has not been named yet. Hutchinson said the sheep are of three different varieties: Karakul, Corriedale, and Baby-Doll sheep.

Junior is the big black sheep, and probably will be the first to greet you at the fence. Following next to him is a small white sheep named Jumble who is Junior’s best friend. Shakira is mid-sized. Her wool is mixed brown and she loves treats, probably because she just had her beautiful little black lamb.

You can see the sheep every day that the zoo is open. And for a very special educational treat, they will be the stars of the Lil Explorer's program on Wednesday May 1st.
