SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - (KNEP) - After leading officers on a nearly half hour car chase in Gering, one man is placed under arrest.

According to the affidavit, officers were originally called to a car revving its engine in the 1700 block of 20th Street around 4am on Friday. When officers arrived, the car drove past them which led them to follow. It was when the car drove through private cemetery property that the officer tried to initiate a traffic stop.

Although the officer used his lights and siren the car driven by James Thorpe continued to drive leading officers on a chase through many streets, going off-road a few times and swerving. When officers had the plates ran, they came to find out the car was stolen out of Wyoming.

With speeds topping out at 60 mph, Thorpe drove through alleys, parking lots, oncoming traffic lanes and yards. He eventually came to a stop where officers arrested him for willful reckless driving, possession of stolen property, driving under suspension and operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest. He faces a 10% of $250,000 bond.
