Nebraska will need to focus on the winter storm moving into the area Friday afternoon and lingering through the weekend. Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings are in place across most of the area beginning Friday evening and lasting through Sunday evening.
Rain chances will increase through Friday afternoon with rain turning over to snow around sunset Friday evening. As rain transitions to snow, a brief period of freezing precipitation will be possible with minor ice accumulations. Some heavier ice accumulations - up to 0.10" could be possible across northern and north central parts of the state. Light snow with bursts of moderate to heavy snow is expected overnight Friday into Saturday and lingering into the day on Sunday.
The heaviest snow is expected across the Sandhills into northern central parts of the state, where 6" to 12" of snow is possible. Snow amounts should decrease as you go south with 6" to 9" possible in North Platte through Sunday afternoon and just a few inches expected across southwestern parts of the state.
