Regional West urges residents to know their diabetes numbers and symptoms

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. According to Regional West Medical Center, more than 30 million adults in the United States have diabetes.

30 million people in the U.S. has diabetes while another 84 million has prediabetes. Symptoms include increased thirst, hunger and urination. Get your blood sugar levels checked annually. (Regional West Medical Center)

With that statistic, another 84 million have a condition called prediabetes.

The risks comes from the numbers continuing to grow.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that impairs the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin resulting in excess sugar in the blood.

If you have diabetes, your body doesn’t make enough insulin or has a hard time using insulin.

In many cases, you can experience both symptoms.

The three main symptoms are increased thirst, hunger and urination.
