Scottsbluff community mourns the loss of former mayor

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - (KNEP) - The Scottsbluff community is mourning the loss of their former mayor Don Overman.

Overman passed away Monday at the age of 90. He served as Mayor of City of Scottsbluff for 20 years from 1974 – 1994. During his tenure, he orchestrated a committee to try to combine Gering and Scottsbluff. When the two cities voted on it, Gering voted no while Scottsbluff voted yes.

Overman also worked tirelessly on bringing the Western Nebraska Regional Airport to where it is today.

He leaves behind four children and six grandchildren.
