Scottsbluff fire displaces family of two, kills 26 cats.

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) Scottsbluff Fire displaces family of two. The home home also contained 28 cats, of which only only two survived the blaze.

The fire took place on the 2600 block of 4th avenue in Scottsbluff at 2:14am. The fire caused major smoke damage in the basement, and one of the residents was sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Fortunately for those that survived the fire, the smoke detector in the home was functional and alerted residents in time for them to escape.

The family home was not a cat rescue, and the 28 cats living in the home were pets according to the Scottsbluff fire department. The two surviving felines are recovering in a veterinary clinic.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
