Scottsbluff woman tries to flee from traffic stop

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - (KNEP) - A Scottsbluff woman flees the scene of a traffic stop and sees additional charges.

According to court records, an officer witnessed a car stopped at a stop light at the intersection of West 27th street and Avenue I Thursday afternoon. A closer look revealed the car also contained expired plates.

The officer pulled over the car and spoke to the driver who was later revealed to be Christy Garcia. She told the officer she didn’t have her driver’s license on her. A check revealed she had a suspended license in the State of Wyoming and the State of Nebraska and Garcia had been arrested five times for driving under suspension.

When the officer approached the vehicle again, Garcia became agitated and started the car. While in the parking lot of one fast food establishment, she hopped the curb into another food establishment’s parking lot and nearly hit an officer and another vehicle. Garcia took off through an alley before ditching the car.

Officers later tracked Garcia down and arrested her on multiple charges including willful reckless driving, flight to avoid motor vehicle, attempted assault on officer/motor vehicle, driving under suspension and unregistered vehicle.

It was later found out, Garcia hit a dumpster which added an additional leaving the scene of an accident charge. She is housed in the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center on 10% of $63,000.
