MORRILL, Neb. (KNEP) - The Union Pacific locomotive facility south of Morrill will close next year according to company officials.

UP Senior Communications Director Kristin South says the locomotive repair shop will close in January 2019. South says the railroad is currently working with labor unions on arrangements to give impacted employees the opportunity to relocate to other UP facilities based on seniority, or to be furloughed. The facility currently has a staff of 68.

South says the work performed at the repair shop will be shifted to other locations conducting similar work, primarily in North Platte and North Little Rock, Arkansas. South says the company made the decision to meet the needs of their business, which continues to support a mix of commodities.
