The Western Nebraska Community College women's basketball team came from behind on Saturday to defeat Casper 65-60 to claim the Region IX Women's tournament title.
The Lady Cougars got 21 points from Merle Wiehl, 20 points from Tishara Morehouse, and 13 points from R'Manie Pulling in the win.
The first half saw both teams trade key runs and would go into halftime tied at 28. Casper came out of third quarter gates strong taking a 34-28 lead. But Morehouse and Wiehl sparked a key 11-0 third quarter run to push the Lady Cougars ahead.
Casper made things interesting in the fourth as they closed to within two points. But the Lady Cougars made just enough free throws to seal the win.
In addition to the Region IX title the Lady Cougars clinch a berth into the national tournament in Lubbock, Texas later in the month.
