The Western Nebraska Community College softball team saw their season come to an end on Wednesday with a series loss to Butler in the District Round of the postseason.
WNCC needed to win the best of three series to punch a ticket into the National Junior College Tournament in Utah.
In game one of the District E Series, Cougars fell in a close one 5-4 to the Grizzlies. WNCC led 2-0 after two innings in the contest. However Butler rallied with a four run third inning to take the lead 4-2.
WNCC fought back scoring runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game again at four. However Butler pushed across a run in the 7th to seal the win.
Mickie Mills was the big hitter for the Cougars finishing 2 for 4 with one RBI.
In game two WNCC would fall behind 4-1 and could never get any closer as Butler earned an 8-5 game two win to seal the series.
The Grizzlies would answer every WNCC rally in the contest including after WNCC pushed across two runs in the fourth to close the gap to one run. Butler answered with a two run fourth to push the lead back up to three.
Butler with the win advances into the NJCAA Softball Tournament, got big games from Boo Robinson (3-4, 1 HR, 5 RBI) and Taliya Talley (2-3, 1 HR, 3 RBI).
The Region IX champions end their season at 35-20 on the year.
