WNCC head women's basketball coach Chad Gibney named Coach of The Year

Scottsbluff, NEB Western Nebraska Community College head women's basketball coach Chad Gibney receives a big honor this week.

The World Exposure media organization named Gibney the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Coach of the Year.

He was one of four finalists up for the NJCAA Division One award. Northwest Florida State's Bart Walker, South Plains College's Cayla Petree, and South Georgia Tech's James Frey were the other finalists.

Gibney guided the Lady Cougars to one of their best seasons in school history. Finishing 28-2 and earning a trip to the National Junior College Tournament before it was cancelled due to CO-VID 19 precautions.

During the season the ladies ran off 26 straight wins climbing into the top five In the country.

Earlier in the month Gibney was named Region IX South Coach of The Year for the third time.

In addition to Gibney getting Coach of The Year from the World Exposure, Tishara Morehouse was named one of just fifteen players nationally to be a finalist for Sophomore Player of The Year by the publication.
