Weekend I-80 drug stops net marijuana

North Platte / Sidney, NEB. (KNOP) - NSP Troopers made two drug busts over the weekend and find 126 pounds of marijuana near North Platte and Sidney. The drivers in both stops were arrested and jailed.

Friday night at 10:30, a Nebraska State Patrol trooper talked to driver of a Toyota Corolla in a parking lot in North Platte. The trooper detected criminal activity. The K9 alerted to the odor of a controlled substance.

A search revealed 69 pounds of marijuana inside duffel bags.
Calvin Simmons, 56, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was arrested for possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession with intent to deliver, and no drug tax stamp. He was lodged in Lincoln County Jail.

Sunday afternoon, a trooper stopped a man from Ohio for speeding on the Interstate near Sidney.

A K9 from the Deuel County Sheriff's Office smelled a controlled substance and a search discovered 57 pounds of marijuana concealed inside suitcases.

The driver, Johnathan Neely, 46, of Dayton, Ohio, was arrested for possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession with intent to deliver, and no drug tax stamp. He was lodged in Cheyenne County Jail.
