Strong storm throws the kitchen sink at the state..
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Even while a powerhouse storm spins in the Western U.S. tonight, we will feeling it’s influence before the storm tracks across Nebraska on Tuesday and Wednesday bringing a variety of weather. The brunt of this storm will mainly impact Western and Northern parts of the state. Tonight some fog and mist will persist in the evening as moisture gets pulled northward. Showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread, particularly mid to late evening through the overnight. South of an Ogallala to Holdrege to Smith Center, Kanas line, there is a marginal risk for a few of the storms turning strong to severe becoming capable of damaging 60 mph winds.
Periods of rain and imbedded thunderstorms will continue overnight through Tuesday morning and possibly into the early afternoon with the instability gradually decreasing with time. The Tri-Cities will continue to be in the warm sector of this storm as temperatures hold in the 40s tonight through most of Tuesday before starting to crash late afternoon and evening.
Some light snow will then push into the Local 4 viewing area with counties to the northwest of the Tri-Cities picking up 1 to 3 inches. Chances for light snow will continue into Wednesday. The Tri-Cities could see a conversion to light snow by amounts should be light. The other element will be the strong winds associated with this storm. Wind gusts of 40 plus mph will continue through much of the week.
If you have travel plans for Northern and Western Nebraska, consider postponing. Winter Storm Warnings and Blizzard Warnings along with Winter Weather Advisories will be in effect. Heavy snow will impact Northern Nebraska, the Sandhills, into the Panhandle. Travel will be nearly impossible in those areas impacted by the heavier snow.
