COLUMBUS, Neb. (KOLN) - A Columbus man faces charges after authorities found drugs and paraphernalia while administering Narcan to him at his home.

On Dec. 9, the Platte County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an unconscious man, identified as 62-year-old Donald Newman, in the basement of a home on E 44th Street, east of Columbus.

A sergeant found a syringe near Newman and a concealed loaded firearm under his shirt, which was confiscated, according to court documents. Additional drugs and paraphernalia were discovered in the basement.

Documents say three doses of Narcan were administered before Newman regained consciousness and was transported to Columbus Community Hospital for treatment.

Authorities found Newman in possession of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and oxycodone prescribed to someone else.

He is charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm while committing a felony. His bond is set at 10% of $1,000,000, with a hearing scheduled for Jan. 9, 2025.
