KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Between 150 and 175 people gathered in Kearney on Saturday for the 2026 Tri-Cities Women’s March, joining communities across the country in marking International Women’s Day.

This year’s march, which rotates annually among Kearney, Hastings and Grand Island, was held from 1–3 p.m. at the Harmon Park Activities Center. Organizers said 21 vendors took part, offering information and resources on women’s health, LGBTQIA+ and women’s equal rights, political advocacy, and support for women and other marginalized groups.

The event opened with speakers, refreshments and prize drawings before marchers stepped off around 2 p.m. The march route went from Harmon Park south to 25th Street, west to 6th Avenue, around the block and back to the park, where participants gathered for a group photo. Many carried homemade signs, and organizers encouraged donations of full-size personal hygiene and cleaning supplies for the Safe Center in Kearney.

“As the State Legislature, the Senate, and Congress continue to propose and enact laws that strip rights from women, our trans friends, hard-working immigrants, and other marginalized Americans, we must stand together in opposition to harmful legislation and protect one another,” said committee member Joni Kuzma. “Our peaceful march proclaims that we have the right to free speech, a right to vote, and a right to safety in our homes, streets, and communities.”
