Nebraska State Patrol investigating crash at intersections of Highways 281 and 34
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Drivers had to detour around the intersection of Highways 281 and 34 in southwest Grand Island after a four-car crash Wednesday morning.
The Nebraska State Patrol said the accident happened just before 8:30 a.m. The patrol says a Nissan Murano was northbound on Hwy 281 while a southbound Ford Escape was turning left onto Hwy 34. The two cars collided, splitting the Ford Escape in half. Two vehicles that were waiting at a stoplight on westbound Hwy 34 were also hit.
The patrol said the driver of the Ford Escape was taken to CHI Health St. Francis hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. There were no other reported injuries.
The patrol did not identify the drivers of the vehicles involved. Police said a witness reported that one of the vehicles ran a red light at a high rate of speed, but as of Wednesday afternoon there had been no arrests or citations. However, the patrol said the crash was still under investigation.
The patrol said the intersection was partially closed for about an hour.
