Grand Island Senior High names coaches for 2025-26

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Grand Island Senior High announced the following coaching updates for the 2025-26 school year.

Brittany Marr will serve as the Head Softball Coach.

She will be stepping-in to lead the Softball program after Scott Galusha resigned so he may have more time to spend with his family.

Marr has been with the GISH Softball coaching staff since 2022. Being a familiar face to the program, she will bring a smooth transition for Islander Softball. Marr also serves as a 5th Grade Teacher at Engleman Elementary.

Montie Fyfe will serve as the Head Girls Basketball Coach.

He will stepping-in to lead the Girls Basketball program after Kathryn Langrehr resigned to have more time to spend with her family.

Bringing a wealth of coaching experience to the helm, Fyfe served with the Girls Basketball coaching staff for a number of years in the 1990’s before returning to the ranks in 2023. In addition, Fyfe serves as the Head Boys Track & Field Coach for the Islanders as well as leads a classroom as a Freshman Seminar teacher in the GISH Academy of Freshman Exploration.

Braeden Mlinar will serve as the Head Volleyball Coach.

He will be stepping-in to continue momentum for the Volleyball program after Marcus Ehrke resigned so he may spend more time with his family.

A familiar face and energetic presence to the Islanders, Mlinar has been with the Volleyball coaching staff since 2023. A passionate supporter of students, Mlinar serves as a Resource Teacher for GISH.

Jeremiah Slough has resigned as the GISH Boys Basketball Coach and Girls Golf Coach.

Set to pursue other professional opportunities outside of Grand Island Public Schools, Jeremiah Slough has shared that he will be leaving the GISH Boys Basketball program and the Girls Golf program. Throughout his tenure leading the Islanders on the hardwood, Slough has amassed over 200 career wins, earned hardware at district tournaments, Coached a Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year, and built a culture of consistency. We wish him well as he explores the next exciting venture in his career. In his time leading Girls Golf, the program experienced notable success with strong district performances and numerous state medalists in recent years.

GISH will begin searching for the next coaches to lead the Boys Basketball and Girls Golf programs.

GISH Activities Director Chris Ladwig is optimistic about the future of the Islander programs. “While coaching transitions are never easy, we fully support our coaches and leaders who have served our programs well through the years.” he said.

Ladwig says they are “excited to see our next wave of leaders step-up and continue the rich tradition of Islander excellence.”
