Nebraska’s top 8-man players prepare for Sertoma All-Star Classic
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Players and coaches reported to Central Community College on Sunday and began work on Monday for the Sertoma 8-Man All-Star Football Classic.
For the players, it’s a chance to get out on the field, compete, have fun and represent their school one last time.
“It’s just a huge honor to be selected here to and to represent Kenesaw and Kenesaw football,” said Adam Denkert, a West team running back and middle linebacker from Kenesaw.
Carson McDonald, an East team quarterback and cornerback from McCool Junction, said the week is about enjoying the experience.
“We just go out there and we’re having a great time. We don’t think about like just playing football, we’re just having fun,” McDonald said. “And playing football comes with that obviously, but for the most part, it’s just having a lot of fun.”
For the coaches, the week is a chance to share ideas and continuing the growth of 8-man football..
“8-man is what Nebraska is known for. We have more 8-man schools that play football than any other state in the country,” said Andy Seamann, West head coach from Brady. “So, it’s a big honor and it’s a great week to represent Nebraska.”
Matt Kuchar, East head coach from Bloomfield, said the 8-man coaching community is collaborative.
“8-man coaches aren’t afraid to go and tell everybody else what we’re going and doing,” Kuchar said. “It’s a great community. Everybody’s willing to go and help. Kind of like a brotherhood.”
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. Saturday at Hastings College Lloyd Wilson Field.
