Lincoln man kills brother, wounds bystander in Casey’s shooting, police say
Emanuel Greenwalt-Claypool, 23, arrested on murder charges after Thursday morning shooting
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A Lincoln man shot and killed his own brother and accidentally wounded a bystander at a Casey’s gas station Thursday morning, police said.
Emanuel Greenwalt-Claypool, 23, of Lincoln, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder, use of a firearm to commit a felony and second-degree assault following a deadly shooting Thursday.

Lincoln Police officers were sent to the Casey’s near 13th and E streets at 11:11 a.m. on the report of multiple shots fired inside the gas station.
Upon arrival, officers found two victims with gunshot wounds. At a briefing Friday, LPD Capt. Ben Miller identified the victim who later died from his injuries at the hospital as Greenwalt-Claypool’s brother, 24-year-old Jarell Wheeler.
LPD said the other victim, a 38-year-old man from Martell, Nebraska, was struck twice. He’s since been released from the hospital.
According to police, LPD investigators found that Greenwalt-Claypool was working as a delivery driver for store products and arrived at the store to make a delivery about the same time that Wheeler was leaving the store.
Based on store surveillance, video and witness statements, police determined that Wheeler came back inside, left and then came back inside again, this time running towards Greenwalt-Claypool with his arm raised.
At nearly the same time that Wheeler began to run, Greenwalt-Claypool reached for the firearm in the front of his waistband and shot Wheeler multiple times, police said. Additional shots also hit the 38-year-old man who was standing at a cooler nearby.
Police said Greenwalt-Claypool remained on scene, surrendered his firearm and is cooperating with the investigation. He was not injured in the shooting.
Police did not give a clear motive behind the shooting but are still investigating.
The store will be closed for an extended period while investigators work through collecting physical and digital evidence from the scene.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call LPD’s non-emergency number at 402-441-6000. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600, report online at lincolncrimestoppers.com or download the free P3 app.
