VERNON, Conn. (WFSB/Gray News) - A man was convicted Monday for the 2021 murder of a Connecticut motel owner.

Alvin Waugh, 35, of Hartford, was found guilty of murder and carrying a pistol without a permit, state prosecutors announced.

The verdict at Rockville Superior Court initially came down Friday.

Prosecutors said he shot and killed Zeshan Chaudhry.

Evidence at trial showed that on June 27, 2021, Chaudhry told Waugh to leave the Motel 6 in Vernon after Waugh became belligerent over the price of a swimming pool pass.

It was previously reported that the pool pass cost $10.

Rather than leave, prosecutors said Waugh returned to his motel room and retrieved a homemade semiautomatic pistol. He then shot the victim 11 times and ran.

Waugh was being held on a $2 million bond. Sentencing is scheduled for April 10.
