HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Here are the four stories you need to know for March 2, 2026.
Operation Epic Fury
The United States and Israel launched a missile attack into Iran over the weekend that killed Ayatollah Khomeini. At least four U.S. service members have been killed and at least five were wounded in retaliation. A Kuwaiti attack accidentally hit a U.S. plane Monday morning, causing it to crash, though all pilots survived in the friendly fire incident.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and General Dan Cain held a press conference Monday morning briefing reporters on the situation. The operation is called Operation Epic Fury, and President Trump says it could last four to five weeks. The IDF is also striking Lebanon this morning, and senators are expected to vote on a war powers resolution later this week that would determine whether Trump needs congressional approval before more strikes are carried out.
Murder-Suicide
The Nebraska State Patrol, with assistance from the Kearney County Sheriff’s Office and Kearney County Attorney’s Office, is investigating an attempted murder/suicide in rural Kearney County. The Kearney County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene Saturday afternoon. According to NSP, three children and a woman had gunshot wounds, with the woman found dead.
The three children were transported by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney and treated for their injuries. Two of the children have since been transported to Children’s Hospital in Omaha. NSP said all three children are expected to survive. The children are all under the age of 12.
