HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Here are the four stories you need to know for April 20, 2026.

Governor’s roundtable

Governor Jim Pillen is hosting a first-of-its-kind roundtable this morning along with members of his cabinet following the end of the legislative session on Friday. The briefing will bring together state leaders for a wide-ranging discussion on accomplishments from the 2026 legislative session and years past, with topics including efforts to lower property taxes, grow Nebraska businesses, and improve education and healthcare.

Governor Pillen says the event is a chance to showcase the work of his administration and the team behind those efforts, set to begin at 9 a.m. this morning. This comes as according to the Nebraska Examiner, his main challenger in the 2026 election, Lynne Walz, released a new poll saying that he was below the 50 percent support level that most incumbents see as vital when heading into election season.

HPS superintendent resignation

The Hastings Public Schools superintendent has submitted a resignation letter to the school board. The letter, dated April 17, 2026, reads: “Mrs. Sullivan, Please accept this as my formal request to be released from my contract with Hastings Public Schools for the 2026-27 school year. Respectfully, Chris Prososki.”

This is slated to be discussed at the Hastings Public School Board meeting tonight starting at 6 p.m. Local4 has confirmed that Dr. Prososki was placed on administrative leave last week.

Iran talks

Iran has “no plan” for the next rounds of talks with the United States on ending the war there, according to CNN. No word on how this impacts the scheduled trip for Vice President J.D. Vance to Pakistan to discuss peace talks for the region after no deal was reached last time.

This comes as a ceasefire to the war is slated to end on Wednesday and the United States seized an Iranian ship over the weekend.

Your forecast

Another day, another Red Flag Warning for central Nebraska. We’ll see breezy conditions continue for most of the week, with the worst of it coming midweek. We’ll see minor chances for precipitation mid week, after a hot start to the week.

There are also precipitation chances later over the weekend. As of right now, these are the strongest chance for anything to develop. Wind should calm down to the “breezy” (sustained wind below 20 miles an hour) over the weekend, but stronger gusts are still possible, if not likely.
