Free lead assessments available for eligible families in Two Rivers district
KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Two Rivers Public Health is offering free Lead Environment Assessments for Families (LEAF) to eligible households throughout the district. The program is designed to help families identify potential sources of lead exposure and support healthier home environments for children and pregnant women.
Who qualifies
Families may qualify if they:
- Live in a home built before 1978, and
- Have at least one child under age 6 and/or a pregnant woman living in the home full time.
What’s included
Eligible participants will receive, at no cost:
- A free lead risk assessment
- Lead-safe cleaning education
- A lead cleaning kit
- Water filters
Why it matters
Lead exposure can be harmful to young children and developing babies. Two Rivers says exposure can come from deteriorating lead-based paint, contaminated dust, soil, or drinking water. The LEAF program provides education and resources aimed at reducing lead hazards and protecting families’ health.
