Local4’s Four Things You Need to Know for October 29, 2026
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Here are the four stories you need to know for October 29, 2026.
Four weekend DUI arrests reported
The York County Sheriff’s Office is warning drivers after four DUI arrests over the weekend for alcohol, meth and marijuana impairment. Capt. Joshua Gillespie says the number may not sound high, but it is for York County.
Despite limited rideshare options, Gillespie says drivers should plan a sober ride before drinking. He urges anyone who sees someone too impaired to drive to take their keys.
Iran deal efforts ramping up
President Donald Trump called his vice president’s recent outreach to Iran humanitarian, citing shortages of medical equipment. He was asked Wednesday whether he directed JD Vance to restart negotiations. The Wall Street Journal reported that Vance wrote a letter to a powerful Iranian hardliner seeking to revive peace talks and that Trump directed the outreach. Trump says Vance brought him the idea.
A U.S. official says efforts to broker a deal between the U.S. and Iran have ramped up in recent days. The official adds that Trump is considering resuming major military operations after next week’s midterm elections.
Fed holds rates despite inflation
The Federal Reserve is leaving interest rates unchanged despite rising inflation. Chairman Kevin Warsh announced Wednesday that the committee is holding its benchmark rate at 3.75% to 4%. The Fed also is eliminating some rate-setting meetings, a change Warsh says will improve the quality of its decisions.
Gas and diesel prices are the main driver of inflation right now. In central Nebraska, Hall County is down 10 cents to $4.33, Adams County is down one cent to $4.31, Buffalo County is unchanged at $4.42 and Lincoln County is down four cents to $4.39.
Your forecast
We are going to start Thursday off with some fog across the tri-cities, and especially out west. After the rain Monday and saturated atmosphere, we’re looking at that fog taking a few hours of sun to lift. Temperatures should be nice on Thursday, saying below 70. We’ll see temperatures slowly lower throughout the week, but highs will stay in the 60s all week. We do not anticipate any freezing occuring.
Rain will start to make it’s way back into the region Thursday evening, with small chances. Those chances grow again on Friday afternoon with thunderstorms possible, that rain will continue into Halloween morning. However, the afternoon and evening should be just cloudy. Meaning that kids should be able to stay dry while Trick-or-Treating.
