After devastating loss, Cozad gathers to grieve and support one another
DAWSON COUNTY, Neb. (KSNB) - The Cozad community is still mourning after a triple murder-suicide over the weekend.
Jeremy Koch, who is believed to have killed his wife and two sons before taking his own life, had a long history of mental health struggles. Something his wife, Bailey, was a vocal advocate for.
On Wednesday night in Cozad, the Central Plains Home Health and Hospice grief team held a gathering to provide a space safe for those still processing the tragedy.
Multiple pastors, counselors and social workers were in attendance.
Robert Dyer, CEO of Cozad Community Hospital, said Bailey’s advocacy extended far beyond the Cozad community.
“One thing that I think we saw is that many individuals were helped by the social media posts that Bailey and Jeremy did,” Dyer said. “Those opportunities can be a good outlet for people, but you also don’t want to ever forget how important it is to get true professional help from someone who’s trained and skilled in mental health services.”
Dyer also commented on the support the community has shown for the family, as well as the thoughts and prayers coming from across the state.
“There have been a lot of different people who have reached out to our community as a result of this tragedy, and it just reminds you that Nebraskans are here for Nebraskans,” said Dyer.
Looking ahead, the Central Plains Home and Health grief team wants people to know that resources are always available.
